Software and Game Development – Art or Craft?

One of the most important aspects in game development are attractive graphics, musical sounds, and game playability. Game development can be considered as a specific craft which doesn’t always assure success, even if done by an experienced craftsman and following well established “craft procedures.” Besides technical excellence, a good sense for graphic design, pleasant sounds, and math that attract players are needed. Both graphical design and math can be considered an art, whereas the technical implementation is more in the function of a specific craft.
